Hey guys, I'm in the process of building a new art car for the 2010 burn and was wondering if anyone had any of the following materials/items they would be interested in donating:
1 1/2" PVC Schedule 40 or 80 pipe
1 1/2" Slip Slide Tee's
1", 1 1/2" or 2" Square aluminum pipe
Any type of conductive and shielded copper wire (color and gauge don't really matter, it's an art car ;)
Speaker wire
Old speakers
5+ HP go cart engine
Bike or motor cycle chain
Old motor cycle or mountain bike parts / gears

So basically the concept is a complete walking vehicle, no wheels what so ever, 12 legs, measuring 13 feet long, 10 feet wide, 12 feet tall, seats 5-6. I've pretty much figured out how to get a 100 percent fluid movement to where its not clunky like others I have seen and its remains perfectly level with no up and down bumpy travel!! I have the plans drawn up and have been in the R&D stage for a couple months to the point where I got the mechanics of it figured out. I have the electrical system(s), clutch brake steering system and sound systems all designed as well...So now its go time for the complete working fabrication and then decoration to begin, after all I only have 320 days left till the man burns =)

If you would like to follow the progress I will be posting pictures on my facebook page located here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?id=1596036726&aid=2027336

Also, not that I need to bribe my fellow burners but I make stickers (among other things, I run a large format printing company) for several camps on playa (Crazy Horse, Purple Palace and a few others). Anyone that is able to help me out I would be more than willing to print 500-1000 stickers for YOUR camp and or a banner or two as trade =) If not hit me up on the playa for a ride anyway! Much love

Hi everybody, I'm Ryan. I'm also Rif, depending on the HPPM* factor.

Here's the short version of what I hope to share with you. You can learn to move like a Jedi with a Bo staff, faster than you would have ever thought possible, using the power of your mind. Yes you, regardless. Intrigued?

Where? This Saturday Oct 17 at 2 and 4 pm, on the beach near the grassy gymnastic area, just south of the Santa Monica pier. The weather is going to be nice. I'll have a ton of extra staves, so bring friends, let's make a day of it. Speaking of friends, please forward this to anyone you think might be interested.

Here's the longer version.

For the past five years I've been working in addiction recovery, developing a system called MindLighter. I am really excited by the results, and want to share what we've learned with you. If you've ever even remotely wanted to spin fire, or wished you could move like Neo, Mindlighter makes that happen. Guaranteed. Please do not read that as anything other than the complete confidence born from seeing it happen over and over. It just works. What I'm really interested in sharing are the mental tools. They're designed to help navigate this crazy shifting world.

The shifting is due to the fact that we are figuring out how to live in a brand new world, one fully immersed in technology. Being aware of this shift, gives us all the advantages of being Human Version 2.0. Texting, Email and GPS definitely make life easier, but the real gift of computers comes from the reference point they give us regarding our own astonishing capabilities. NASA has a Super-Computer that somehow managed to safely land an operational remote control truck on Mars, that's a remarkable achievement. Now see if you can accept the fact that your brain is thousands of times more powerful than the computer that accomplished that feat. (I'm still working on that one.)

The best part is that it is incredibly simple to harness that power and put it to work for you. Computers give us a clear window into how our own internal CPU's work. Don't be put off by the tech talk. If you can send an Email, you already have all the knowledge you need to make this system work for you.

The Bo staff is the tool we use to prove these theories. It's simplicity allows you to use it as a lever to unlock your the potential of your mind. Staff spinning is incredibly fun. So along with gaining a no-cost hobby, you also get an intriguing new game. As you use your mind to unlock Jedi level moves, your new endorphin powered understanding allows you to unlock even more of your untapped potential. Then you take all of that to work with you and confidently apply your Jedi Mindset to nailing that big presentation that saves the world. By the way, we use lightweight, often padded sticks in order to keep the ouch factor to a minimum.

(Ok, have to say it.) But wait, there's more. Staff spinning is also a complete core workout, and is low impact to boot. Shoulders, Arms and Abs gain shape and definition, calories are burned, energy is increased. Your Super-Hero body shows up. This may be the best part, you get in shape while you're having fun. It is definitely not another trudge on the dreadmill. So you'll stick with it. (I also study Pun-Fu, be warned.) Classes are filled with incredibly interesting people, so it's a fun social outlet as well.

I really believe in this, so to eliminate any resistance, let's do this. Let's make the first class Pay-what-you-want-to. If it's not for you, pay nothing. You have nothing to risk except an hour of your time. It just might upgrade your entire life. Clinical clients have used it beat Heroin and Cocaine cravings. Another has used it to lose 180 pounds. If it works on that level, what could it do for you? Looking forward to seeing you there.

Thanks!

Ryan.
and another thing.....since when do "burners" feel it's ok to take things just because they're playing with them at the end of the night,etc...? if you're playing with someone else's hoola-hoop....don't just assume you can take it! case in point: last night i had to convince a girl to leave the hoop for the rightful owner......five minutes later, the girl showed up and was happy to find her hoop leaning on the stage.......such behavior is unbecoming and quite telling.......If it Ain't Yours, Don't Take It

sorry, i had to get that two-cents-vent out!! luckily, yet again, last night a "dj saved my life"! peace..................

The Funchux campaign is to produce the world's highest quality fire-performance gear at low prices. Our mission is to provide everyone with super affordable, great looking high-performance gear so they don't have to settle for dishing out $60-$160 on a single item to some big company that spent all of $9-$20 wholesale price on the materials and 20 minutes to produce it. In today's economy, people shouldn't be forced to spend an arm and a leg in order to receive fire toys which have been finely made by experienced craftsmen. Funchux is not some corporation, but an idea. Bringing people together and advancing the technology of fire performance equipment. Our philosophy is simple: build fire toys at the lowest prices possible without sacrificing quality, and sell each piece at the price which allows x 2 of the specific object to be built and resold. (Example: It costs us $18 to build a set of Firechux and we sell them for $36) When 1 object is sold, it creates 2 objects, and so on. As we all put in a small amount, we all get something great out of it. As our campaign grows it will allow us to continuously lower the pricing of our toys.
Our wicker man was small and our numbers below 100, but it had the proto-burn essence I have always wondered about. A can do make it happen attitude. Our modest propane poofers were the only propane flame effects, and it was fun to contribute. As one of 50,000 one is lost, as one in 100 one makes a difference. Met great people, came home happy. Love the small burn, may regional burns thrive. Thank you Ricky and Athena!

If you created an account to add events before the burn, or created an account while at PlayaInfo, you will be able to still log in with the same info. All the theme camps and art from this year are there, and with Flickr, you can add images to the thing it's associated with.

For example you can see the Rocket here:
http://earth.burningman.com/brc/2009/art_installation/438/

But if you use the "machine-tag"
burningman:art=438

on Flickr, you can automatically associate your photo of the rocket with the art page. Flickr will link to earth.burningman.com's page about the rocket, and earth.burningman.com will automagically pull up the picture you took of it!
Here's a list of all the art:

Me, just to b different, I'm manifesting a week at home. I can't afford to go to the burn, I would be a drag on the resources of people around me, I wouldn't have money for rent when I get back, and no one would be in town to keep two businesses running.

But people keep expecting me to go.

I don't want these expectations to become reality, so could people please help me manifest a nice busy week here in LA? I don't mind the hassle of figuring out how to deliver tools to the playa, nor do I mind restocking some store in Japan. I'd love to enter into contact negotiations with another movie. and I could do it all in air conditioning. So, please send some "stay at home" vibes my way.... ;oP

okey dokey, my playa plans fell through last minute. so i'm giving up my cheapo travel trailer which i took to the playa 3 years ago. it's probably just worth a few hundred bucks and for the past few months i've had to pay $50 a month to park it. not worth it for me.

please note that i haven't tested any of this stuff in 3 years, so who knows what's fallen apart or been chewed up by rats.

so here's what you get for free.

* 50 year old 18' aljo travel trailer.
* slow roof leak, which leaks when water pools on the roof. so not a problem when you're driving. when you're parked, put the tarp on the roof (included for free).
* semi working plumbing. i replaced much of the plumbing myself so that the toilet and sink worked great. the pump was not strong enough for the shower. (the pump of course will require power - 12v or 110v). the fresh water tank cap blew off at the end of my trip, so you'll need to put a new one one. or to simplify life (or if you don't have power) just pour water down the toilet to flush it. the black and grey water tanks work fine.
* i never fixed up the propane, so i have no idea if it works. i wouldn't try the heater because it's fifty years old and who knows what it spews.
* if you have power, the fridge works. i have no idea if it works on propane, but it's supposed to.
* beds: the main double bed needs a mattress. there another single foldout where the dining table is. the other small fold down bunk above isn't very secure and i only used it to store stuff.
* tires - i bought new tires 3 years ago. there's one spare.
* brakes: i had all the brakes fixed up 3 years ago.
* lights - if you have 12v or 110 power, you can plug into the trailer directly and all the lights works.

here's what you can borrow for free, but i want it back. this is a heavier trailer (3 or 4 thousand pounds unloaded, without water), and if you don't know what this stuff is you probably shouldn't be towing the trailer.
* class 4 weight distributing hitch
* anti sway bar
* trailer brake control - you will need the wiring harness to connect this to your vehicle
* hydraulic jack

registration expires this week. i'll want to transfer title to you and you can renew at the dmv for the new tags. it's about $79/year.

the trailer is parked in lake view terrace, just off the 210 freeway, not too far from hansen dam.

lemme know asap.

Ok- here's what's up- normally our camp is on the esplanade and we have a good presence. This year we've fallen apart. We usually bring the phonebooth to GOD- which is going to make it to the playa hosted by another camp. We have two art cars going and basically at this point our art car crew for both vehicles is only 4 guys and maybe one girl. I know - sausage fest - plus we need help loading and fluffing the fur, pillows and other softy things. Here is a link to one of our cars: http://tribes.tribe.net/bmmv/photos/7f202328-d184-4618-8c22-aa2a65e41386
So we are up in Ojai (hour 1/2 north of LA) and we would love to invite a few people who would be willing to do some work with us and prove your love....We are starting tomorrow and working till Sat. and hopefully loading Sat. and leaving in the eve. If you want to rideshare up to the playa even better since we have plenty of room for stuff on the trailers, and we have extra bikes, lights, etc... so really if you have the right vibe from a phone call and can put in a day or more of work before the burn, we could offer a crash pad in an rv up here in Ojai, a ride to the burn for a little gas money, but mostly a fabulous time touring the art around the playa and having a free ride with all the frills and some wonderful camp mates. Or you could come up and help a day and then caravan with us to BRC. A little more about us- aged 30-50, mostly 5 time or more-time burners, 420+ friendly, fun, worldly, and a little bit crazed.

Creating this video was process of recovery for myself as well because it seems that every time I lost somebody I knew in my beloved community, it reminded me of the loss of the others who went before. Then to put together this piece, selecting images and music the accumulated grief and sadness became intense and I got spun.

I'm planning on listing it this week. It's been out to Burning Man twice and though it's not fancy, it's a workhorse of a truck (former USPS truck), and Badass Brad has vouched for it's engine (he was the main reason I bought it in the first place saying it was a great engine).

**18' Box Truck
**Working Lift Gate
**Caterpillar/Volvo Engine (I'll get the specs tomorrow if you need specifics)
**Low mileage - I'll get the exact numbers, but I think it's around 150K
**We had about $4K of work done over the last 2 years including new tires and had the air brakes redone
**just renewed the tags so you're good for another year, but you'll have to apply for a new CA sticker from the CHP

heading to the playa for my 7th Burn, and my fiance's 4th. Well versed in this stuff, but can anyone tell us where to get EL wire in LA? Everyplace I find on line is for on line sales only. No "brick and morter" places to pick stuff up? Also, totally dumb question, but, where can we get cheapo goggles. There are about 12 trillion little shops on upper Haight or South of Market in the city where you can find 8 dollar pairs of goggles, but can't find anything on line here. Figure if we can find these two items, we'll be able to find anything else we need.

I know there's a huge Burner crowd down here as I've met some very cool So Cal peeps out on the Playa. Where is everyone?

... he went up to Northern California for a few meetings and has not returned to LA. He was last seen Monday evening 7/20/09 around 8 pm in Oakland.

A text was received to my dear friend Andrea (his good friend and business partner) on Monday night at 10 pm that he would be arriving back to LA around 4 am, Tuesday morning. He has not been heard of since.

We have now found out that someone has tried to cash a falsified check (he carries his check book on him at all times) and tried to use his credit cards.

If you have any information, if you've seen him, anything at all. Please email me at minx006.9@gmail.com or call me 323-314-7200. Although, I'm happy for your best thoughts and well wishes please do not bombard my email or phone. I need relevant information at this time. I know all of your hearts are with us at this time.

Please post this to your facebook. Even if you do or don't know Elias.
troneee@gmail.com

Workshop is free.

I'll send out 'party' requirements and what to bring for those who PM me with their e-mail addresses.

Remember this is a family get-together, please, bring some goodies to share, its a party :) What ever feels good, if you can't, its ok, bring yourself!

In this workshop we will revisit how to strip, solder and to add connectors to EL Wire. How to add EL Wire to bicycles and to clothing. And where to get good deals on stuff...with Burner Discounts. (I have no affiliation with vendors just with fellow Burners on the 'Net :)) )

I aml ooking forward to again partying with you all.....
