Justin/PB/my husband and I are currently in a hospital in Cancun, Mexico. We were in Playa del Carmen for my sister's wedding and he fell while running at the resort on July 15th. He was running fast enough to smash his face really, really badly on some stone steps. He fractured many bones in his face/jaw and he had surgery two nights ago to fix them (with titanium plates and screws). His nose and sinus cavity are also badly damaged and we are waiting to hear when he will go back into surgery to get them fixed. It will be at least another 2 days or more until we get a better idea of when we can come home.

He cannot breath out of his nose yet, so he is having trouble breathing and they are monitoring him in ICU (although the surgeon says that his lungs are working properly). He is in a lot of pain and they cannot give him too much pain killer while he is recovering from the first surgery. He also cannot sleep very well because of the breathing issue. He did not get a concussion and his brain is working just fine, along with the rest of his vital organs. His eyes are badly bruised because he broke the bone in between his eyes, too. But he can see just fine and is now able to open his eyes. I have been spending as much time as possible with him in ICU. The doctor says that he is recoverying rather quickly (his strong will is working for him).

Thankfully we are in a nice, private hospital in Cancun where many of the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff speak English and are very helpful. I am in contact with his family members. My mother is staying with me in the hospital and my sister and brother-in-law have also been here to visit and help us take care of stuff.

I really just want everyone to keep him in mind and heart because he needs a lot of support right now. Since we do not know much about what else needs to be done, we may be in Mexico for a while. Unfortunately, we did not have medical insurance and it has been crazy stressful trying to ensure that we have money to pay for it with family help and credit cards. We are doing okay at the moment but I know that more surgeries and hospital costs will continue to rise. While I am not asking for money, here is a paypal account if you want to help out:
