Lulie and I did a little hike on Sunday up in the Santa Monicas and we got our exercise in for the weekend.

You suggested March 1st, so right now we (K Bunny and I) were leaning towards Sunday March 2nd (time to heal). Also I think that K Bunny has a party to go to that afternoon so we would like to do this thing at 10:00 in the morning.

If you and Stream can go we'll still do a "beach towards city" ride along one of the River Bike Paths. Since K Bun and I are out in the SFV we were contemplating changing the route to something along the L.A. River (like from Los Feliz to the Sepulveda Dam) in the SFV, but since you and Stream are on the Westside, we'll do anything anywhere, as long as playafied bikes are acceptable.

at the end of Veganskater's link, I vote for the L.A. River trail or just the less dangerous portions of the San Gabriel river.

We should discuss having vehicles at both ends of the ride unless everyone is committed to doing a round trip.

Until now.

Who can do Saturday, March 1st??
That doesn't seem to conflict with any of our Burner events such as Fuente.

I suggest starting down in Seal Beach and heading northwards to LA.
Unless we don't have a sag wagon, in which case we should do a round-trip route starting by heading south (into the wind) first, then turning around & heading back north.

Do you all want to do the LA or San Gabriel river trail?
for info:
http://www.nearfield.com/~dan/sports/bike/river/sg/ (this site also contains a page on the LA River Trail)

Actually, I've never been at the northernmost portion of the SG River Trail. It looks really cool.

Tell me if you can make it that date and what is your suggestion for location. And if you know anyone who'd run a sag wagon, preferably someone who has a van. (Datig....??)

Stream - No problem on the loan of a bike as long as you don't mind one that's been out to the playa and is painted odd colors, has fur, or is otherwise mutated. I'll have tools to adjust the seat height for you. I can fit four or five bikes on my rack.

Nick - Yes there are bike trails in and around Burbank! In fact, there's one that runs along Glenoaks near the 5 Freeway. In fact, a part of it is right next to the flood control channel and a "Class 1" path (dedicated to bikes off street). The L.A. River path is close to the Equestrian Center, but on the other side of the river.

A lot of river or should I say flood control channel access roads are being repurposed for bikes. I just noted another has been opened up in the SFV (not on the maps yet). Anyway, here's a couple of links that you all may find useful.

http://www.acityline.com/burbank/city/bike/bikeway2.gif

http://www.metro.net/riding_metro/bikes/images/la_bike_map.pdf

You can get a pre-printed version of the metro transit map that's pretty nice (my parents gave me one they picked up from one of the metro station info kiosks).

Here's other links.....

http://www.labikepaths.com/bykinfo.html

http://www.labikepaths.com/

Anyway, I would suggest that we start off at the lowest point of the route so that we're pedaling, running, or skating more or less up stream (up hill) on the way out and then down slope on the way back. Of course, if it's windy we're screwed.

I recommend that everyone who is biking or skating wear a helmet. I have spares if anyone needs one. I will be happy to glue whatever hood ornament you want onto it. I think I'm going with rabbit ears on mine as a tribute to K Bun.

Hey everyone,

I was wondering whether anyone would be interested in doing a bicycle ride/run/skate event along one of the river trails, just for the sake of fitness. (and socializing at the same time!)

The idea would be, say, choose a 20-25 mile course, going one way. Folks could choose modality (bike, walk, run, skate, or any combination thereof). It would be a leisurely fitness ride rather than a race, to burn calories & build endurance. (long slow distance builds endurance base and burns calories most effectively). The LA and San Gabriel river trails would be ideal because they have no vehicular traffic and are nearly 100% flat aside from the ramps underneath major streets.

There would be a "sag wagon" to pick up people who need to stop, also to pick up the finishers. We could gather at someone's house afterwards (such as mne) for showers, food, back rubs, relaxation, etc.

We could schedule it, say, a month or two from now to reduce likelihood of rain/cold.

Who'd be interested?

C'mon, let's get out there and move that ass to get in awesome shape for the playa--and more importantly, for living life!
