So I have this slight (but enviable) dliemma.....

Some of my relatives don't know me maybe quite as well as they'd think.; and so I ended up with some holiday presents that I really won't ever use.

Giving them back the items for return/exchange would likely only hurt their feelings. Selling them on eBay is a hassle and no guarantee of success; plus you have to ship the item. There's always Craigslist, but.....burners like to barter, don't we?

So, waste not, want not....one person's unwanted stuff could be another person's treasure, no?

Post your items here that you'd like to put up for barter!
And since we're all LA Burners....no shipping!

I will return to post my own items here later because my awesome Burner girlfriend just got here!

    Excellent! Brilliant! Clever!

Could almost take a twist - "What's the weirdest/strangest Christmas gift you've ever received?"

I have a tray of gingerbread men -- still wrapped and ribboned -- enough for a party. Oooh... yes, I said party. You can have them... I was going to throw them out since my New Years resolution is, of course, is to eat healthy.

Speaking of party... I didn't get these for xmas, but I"m willing to barter: Two silver can lights with different colored gels -- you know, the kind they have in clubs? The kind that shine down on the dance floor? Not the motorized laser lights -- just the colored lights.

Okay, so I have, available to barter:

Bella Cucina "The Entertainment Collection" Triple Buffet Server/Warming Tray.
Basically a big fancy stainless steel food warmer for up to 3 different food items.
Sort of like a home version of when you go to those assembly-line Indian or Chinese places, point and say "I want some of that, and some of that." And they scoop some out for you, using a big metal spoon.
It's pretty big: the box (unopened) standing on its end, is nearly as tall as my legs (and I have long legs).
It's a nice item; but I have nowhere to store it and I don't entertain large numbers of people that often--and I especially don't cook 3 dishes for one party!

    I also have:
a GPS unit for an automobile, complete with dashboard mount (cause apparently windshield suction cup is illegal in CA).
It's brand new in box. I just won't use it. I do fine with my Thomas Guide, or sometimes MapQuest. Plus my car already got broken into, even when I had nothing of value in it. I mean, you can take the GPS with you, but I don't always have pockets, and I hate purses.

I will also soon be receiving my second iPod little mini speaker system (apparently I'm receiving two this year, from family members who don't always communicate with each other) so I could barter one of them.

    Open to barter suggestions!
I especially want a few things for Burning Man: a bike rack (to mount on the trunk of my car); shade structure/easy up (one that would survive dust storms); and/or a really nice set of goggles/dust mask. (the Home Depot dust masks are starting to drive me crazy.)
Or a nice set of metal solar lanterns.
Or if someone has a paint sprayer and could help me touch up the exterior of my house, that'd be great too.

Now, post your own barter suggestions here!!

So I should not have laughed.. I got one of those too. For an anniversary gift. I may take it to the store and exchange. Hard to tho b/c my inlaws gave it to me. They would notice I am not using it when we have gatherings. Darn it.

Hey! Why look at this!! My thread has a bunch more responses now.....!!

        Julie:
What? Oh nooooo! You got one too! What the hell? were these silly things on markdown somewhere??
I'm in the SAME boat. My family may notice if I don't use it. However, that's NOT enough to make me hang onto it (it's big, and takes up space!) and actually hassle with using it. I'm much more of a low-maintenance, wash-&-wear gal, Nothin' fancy. :)

I am sooooo embarrassed to admit that this is something I would like. The Martha Stewart in me just shouts out - God help me!!!!! But it's a "Good Thing."

But seriously I would actually like to see this. I love to entertain and cook for large groups and it just might meet up with my "Martha" standards.

So will you be bargaining for Julie's, or mine?? :)

Moose, I must request that you stop tempting me. Please stop testing my inability to say NO to the wonderful additions to culinary/catering appliances that may never be used in order to be the Martha or Bree (Desperate Housewives) that I shall never be. Please stop with your utter Moose-ness scent to attract me to indulge in bargaining amongst the denizens of Broken Staples - - I can't.......I just can't..........I'm torn between you all!!!! Please, please stop the madness.

              Whewwwwww!

I must now return to kneeding the dough for my homemade whole wheat bread for sandwiches which I shall gleefully share with my lovely Moose!

Dremel 2.0 amp Rotary Tool and Kit - it is such a totally cool kit....just wish I could find more uses for it.

I thought it looked cool in my tool area, but has not been used until and since the first and only reason I bought it: Used only 1 time to drill off the posts of earrings to make them into my nipple rings. Yeah, go figure why buy such an extravagant Dremel to only drill down earring posts.

OK, I'm a dork! And I love that I'm a dork! Just the same, anyone interested in bartering for my Dremel?

Would love: tools, LEDs and lights, fabrics for Lightning Temple robes and costumes, metal and wire, beautiful things, anything for the kitchen

can't figure out if my friends are sadists, masochists or both!

i'm not good at SELF-INFLICTED pain. i have done the laser hair removal thing in an office and it's not terrible, but i can't seem to pull the trigger to zap myself.

Perfect for fundraising events for LT or simply entertaining our cool Burner friends in your lovely home.

        Whoa. Wait....
Do you have anything else to barter besides the home hair removal kit?
        Have you tried it?
Would you care to give some demonstrations at my party next weekend?

Gee, one of the party's events will be a barter/gift exhange....

Someday, we should organize a Burner Exchange Event at a park or something. Yes, I know that there have been a few Burner Wardrobe Exchange events here in the LA area, but perhaps expand that idea a bit to include everything folks might want to exchange or dispose. Anything left over could be gifted or donated to an appropriate charity or cause.

Moose - you better be careful or you may end up with everyone LEAVING their unwanted gifts AT YOUR HOUSE when they leave the party!
I guess you could always just throw the stuff in the trash if it is left behind.
