I'm wondering when a good time to leave for BRC would be. I drove myself last year, but have no memory of the event, aside from a stop at the Walmart somewhere along the 5.
How long does it take, assuming you drive like a civilized human and are not try to break any land speed record?

Sat, August 29, 2009 - 1:28 AMAbout 12-14 hours total, including a little shopping time in Reno. If you're going to dine-in, or use a shopping cart, add the appropriate amount of time. -

In 2007, I was with one rider but he did not possess a DL. So I left around 11pm Saturday night. Had to rest in Bishop around 5am. We woke up around 9 and got to Reno by 1 or so. We slept sunday night at Pyramid Lake (got a permit) and then headed out around 5am Monday morning for BRC
This year, I have a second rider once again but he has a DL so he can take the wheel when I get sleepy. We are leaving around 7am tomorrow, and then will straggle in Reno a bit to chill til around 10pm. -

I remember one particular Bus ride that took us 2 days to get there. First the damn thing had some kind of issue where it couldn't go above 50, then an exhaust leak that nearly killed us. And finally a fuel pump problem that didn't manifest until we were going through the mountains on the 80. Left Saturday night, arrived Tuesday. It was and UGLY trip.
But yeah, you could always nap in Reno.... Me, I like to get all packed, then shower and sleep a full night before making the trip. I try to hit reno about 6pm if I can (for shopping) which makes the ride into Geralch extra special. -
